Oh my god.
This doesn't seem right. An update less than a month after the previous? "What's
going on? What's happening? Where am I?" as Karen Walker would say. Do
not adjust your monitor. The date does say April SECOND above. Alright, enough
with the oh-my-SHOCK of an earlier than usual update. On with the show!
This is
my fourth attempt at writing about this on here. I don't want to be preachy
or self-righteous. I just want to fill people in on what's been happening
in my life and mind. I joined Weight Watchers four weeks ago. Your next thought
is how much have I lost? 13 pounds.
I didn't tell a single person I was joining or even thinking of joining. But
I had made up my mind on a Monday about going to a meeting on the next Friday.
I had that entire week to back out, to convince myself I didn't need to go,
but I went anyway. That was a hurdle in and of itself because I am fantastic
at changing my own mind. I slept maybe two or three hours the night before
my first meeting. God I was so nervous. I was seeing this as a possible life-altering
choice.
It has been extremely important to me to keep this diet personal. To not publicize,
or even celebrate, every time I lose a pound. I am trying to stay realistic
about the entire thing. I don't want to get overly excited and start expecting
weight loss to be my salvation towards happiness. I don't even want to talk
about it with other people, like it's my new "thing." I am hoping
this isn't just another diet experience because I've had too many of those.
This is for me, about me, and because of me.
Don't worry, Soulsmiles is not going to become a Weight Watchers appreciation
site. Your favorite cursing cynic of an author shall remain as feisty as ever.
Alas,
it has arrived. Yeah, it's pretty much the same as my last computer. Faster,
a bit quieter, newer, etc. I don't know what I was expecting. I DID need a
new computer because of my power and memory needs, but my excitement overwhelmed
my practicality. I was half-expecting the new computer to be somehow different
than my old one, like it would make my world like The Matrix or something.
I said HALF-expecting! My sister got the real deal of my desire for a newer
computer. She got my old one, reformatted and rarin' to go! Oh, and did I
mention I gave her the 17" Flat Screen that came with the new one? Why,
you ask? I find myself asking that same question. (Actually, I have two 19"
monitors, and a single 17" just wouldn't be the same)
Eternal
Sunshine of the Spotless Mind movie review...
Some sci-fi, some comedy, some drama...all good things. (Bad Martha Stewart
reference) This movie is about two people destined to be in each other's lives.
They meet, fall in love, fall out of love, and then erase each other from
their respective memories. But Jim Carrey's character changes his mind DURING
the procedure. The movie is then inside this guy's mind, his memory, his vulnerabilities
and humiliations. It's a fascinating concept. Whoever thought of this has
some serious issues though!
The movie also stars the multi-colorful Kate Winslet, Mark Ruffalo, Kirsten
Dunst, and Frodo, I mean Elijah Wood. So if you're into indie black comedies
with great writing and great acting (Jim Carrey) then you'll enjoy this flick.
Taking Lives movie review...
Angelina Jolie...I could end this review right there and be done. But I wouldn't
do that to you. Ms. Jolie plays a weirdly mysterious (a departure for her)
FBI profiler called in to help the Vancouver police investigate a serial killer.
There are a few twists and turns along the way, but nothing unpredictable.
I jumped at one part. I had the movie pretty much figured out with at least
a half an hour left to go. For the ladies and gay men among us...Ethan Hawke,
Keifer Sutherland, and Olivier Martinez are also in the movie. But it's Angelina
that really "stars." I'm not one to object to seeing Angelinas ta-ta's,
but in this movie it was quite unnecessary. I just kept asking myself during
the Ethan/Angelina boffing session "why?"
Matchstick Men DVD review...
If you're a Nicholas Cage fan this rental is pretty much required watching.
He plays a con man with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. His performance was
truly fantastic. He should have been nominated for an Oscar.
Touching Evil
- USA, Fridays @ 10 pm eastern (official
site)
A new show debuted a few weeks ago on USA called Touching Evil. It's about
this investigator who was shot in the head and two years later he returns
to the job. He's lost a few personality traits, like shame and fear. The pairing
of Jeffrey Donovan as David Creegan and Vera Farmiga as Susan Branca is really
nice. They compliment each other well. She's also pleasing to the eye. What
can I say, these are the things I notice. Definitely check out this show if
your home on Friday nights.
This is a
special shout out to "my cousin, Denise Pearson." She was just in
town last weekend and we had a fantastic time. We saw B.T.T. and the Martha
Faukers.
