A Day of Mother’s
She spent her Mother’s Day standing in the rain
of a Michigan May
hands swollen and waterlogged
hood up against an unleashed sky
holding a sign
NEED MONEY FOR FOOD
AND RENT
GOD BLESS
who is her mother?
whose mother is she?
I emptied my wallet
inadequately holding a folded up two dollars
for her to fetch from my car window
I don’t care what she uses the money for
she’s desperate enough
for something
