structure below the surface
where the only influence is that which supports
earth rock dirt
gravity's pressure sustaining stability
till the earth moves
and the atmosphere invades solid ground
worms its way to the steel frame
initiating decay rust slow rot
the breakdown has begun
death starts at birth
and the blink in between is the gift
I am questioning what to do with it
what to make of myself
what to build above the surface
before the breakdown infiltrates integrity
and shaking ground leads to collapse
at some point I won't have the strength to rebuild
the only appearance above the surface
will be the top of this pile of twisted metal
stagnant mud crushed boulders
and the passing of time.
