Suburban Shopping Prison
This is suburban mazes circling a parking lot to get to
the
parking lot
a zig and zag and I'm dumped into stuccoed storefront paradise
designed to hide the trash, the deliveries and employ entrances
it's Main Street USA in Commerce City
this is the culmination of years of fantasizing and behaving
our culture put under a microscope
and we've put on our best smiles to match our sunday best
going to church with all the intention of living a righteous life
that same life our parents strove for
but that life didn't know the fast-paced technology that we know
their kids were raised in a language they don't speak
programming code flashing into our malleable brains
and they weren't there to discuss the digital rhetoric of sex
they're still back at word processing programs
and doing taxes on a spreadsheet
hyper-sexualized girls playing coy with increasingly angry boys
secretly explored sexualities
riding the archaic frequency of our parents
and now angry and sexualized is filling up prisons
and making a mockery of the equal rights amendment
this commerce is another tool of the patriarchy
being used to keep white pockets full and locked up tight
money has a strange way of defying gravity
flowing upward and upward into dark clouds that never seem to rain
casting shadow against the most natural light in existence - the sun
and the moon has bee claimed with fifty white stars and 13 stripes
when will mother nature revoke the credit cards of those banking on
good ol' fashioned patriotism
there ain't no heaven to call home with those dark clouds above
cause all the sinners done stole the souls of the truly righteous
and has them locked up in pens across this country's harshest terrain
barbed wire mazes circling a prison to get
to
another
prison
