This Day

slept so good
felt so good
opened my eyes
to sadness again

still facing change
an eruptive disruption
in carefully planned
stagnation

drive silent and clinging
leave with a comforting hug
trendy coffee and a muffin
in hand

a tear drops
on the trendy plastic lid
then the gaslight
gets lit

sighing already
at this day
and the clock hands
aren't past noon

home to an empty house
but an open garage door
translating to
home to irresponsibility

further investigation
finds further disrespect
finds a dialed phone number
and words of spit rage

a year in the wait
trip to social security
time to read
and people watch

short bead store stop
with no lock luck
a cala lily for my honey
and a gas tank full of gold

back home
to lurkers
and this goddamn
blinking cursor

what else hath this day to behold?

instant message conversations
do not convey
instant tears
and a trash can full of kleenex

managing to order
dog food
with a thank you
through the sobbing

mr. irresponsibility calls
just to say
he's having class
on the grass

the talking escapist tube
beckons
googling "streaming tv"
brings davenport, iowa's local news

sitting and sipping coca-cola
from a brandy snifter
is my small reward
for watching the sun set on this day
