what you don’t know

you were the definition of Woman when we met
intellectual
fierce
beautiful
graceful
feminine
you shook my hand
then put it deep into your pocket
I only looked at you when you weren’t looking at me
you had one leg tucked under you
the other one dangling over the side of the chair
the toe of your black boot touching the floor
you looked at the ground with your eyes when you spoke
but with your head up
a tactic
you didn’t know it then
(and you don’t know it now)
you are tragically fierce
heartbreakingly beautiful
deeply intellectual
classically graceful
feminine on your own terms
